Whether you're a long-time Gingermelon fan or are looking to make your first doll, Shelly's instructions, photos and advice are superb! I'm an experienced doll-maker and still feel that this book is a wonderful find! I especially love how all the little outfits are interchangeable and the embroidery ideas! I embroider doll faces, but am not (yet!) good at embroidering cute designs and always admire them on other people's dolls, so the instructions for that are much appreciated! Can't wait to make a few of these for Christmas and the hardest part will be deciding which ones!!PS: If, like me, you don't want to photocopy the pages for the pattern pieces (I hate breaking the spine of the book and don't have a copier at home), she gives you a website to download them. Unfortunately, the site has changed since the book was published and just forwards to LoveCrafts! I found the updated web site to download the PDF in one of her Instagram posts - look for a post with the book pictured in the photo! The book is very beautiful BUT if you want to actually make the dolls you will have to destroy it "facepalm". You think " ok I might just cut the pattern pages off "but if you do that you will also loose half the informations since they are not on separate pages. they are on verso of instructions. So you will have to loose so much time Tracing and copying the pattern on paper first. Thats a pain in the ***... It's 2020 most people have a printer at home it would have been so easy to just provide a code for a pdf download when you buy the book. (I thought I saw in the review someone saying you could but I searched and searched and found nothing on her website and Instagram)So you don't have to destroy your beautiful book to use it or have to waste so much time trying to awkwardly copy the pattern. The authors suggest washy tape to stick the pattern to a window for easy copying but to do that you still have to cut the page out. and the book is a soft cover doesn't lay flat so you can't even photocopy it (I tried) but the pattern get deformed as it doesn't lay flat in the printer... So overall the projects are really cute the explanation in the book are nice and I was really excited to get started but it ended up being super annoying and I think it would need to provide solutions for modern world. I might try and buy the Kindle version to see if that is printable abd return the paper version it's so unpractical.
